AGE HARDENDINGÂ
A condition achieved with heat treatment to increase the mechanical properties of the material (ie. Tensile strength / hardness etc). This process is typically carried out on the finished parts as forming aged wire may not be possible.
AIRCRAFT CABLE
Strands, cords and wire ropes made of special strength wire primarily for aircraft controls and miscellaneous uses of Aircraft Industry
ASTM
ASTM International, originally known as the American Society for Testing and Materials; Publishes many standards concerning the design, manufacture, and material used in wire, wire rope and wire rope slings
ANNEALED
Softened with heat treatmentÂ
AUSTENITIC TYPES
Stainless steels that have high ductility, low yield stress and relatively high ultimate tensile strength, when compared to typical carbon steel. Added alloys (such as Nickel and Chrome) help increase corrosion resistance, among other properties
BREAKING STRENGTH
The measured load required to break a wire rope in tension
CLEAN
No coating on wire surface
EXTRUSION
The process by which a coating is applied to wire rope. Both wire rope and coating material are drawn through a die to create the desired jacket thickness and consistency
GALVANIZE
To coat with zinc to protect against corrosion
PICKLING
A metal surface treatment used to remove impurities, such as stains, inorganic contaminants, rust or scale from ferrous metals, copper, precious metals and aluminum alloys
SPRING TEMPER
Specific amount of cold work to give standard spring temper condition for a grade of material
TENSILE STRENGTH
The tensile strength ranges given are typical ranges for each alloy for the specified standard condition of supply. Please be aware that as we manufacture these materials, tensile range can be altered to suit customer requirements.
